The challenge as we see it
Disposing of radioactive waste can be a costly and time-consuming effort if not managed properly. In addition to logistical considerations, meeting compliance requirements of state and federal regulations can be a daunting task. The first step toward bringing a program into compliance is identifying all types of radioactive waste. While some examples are obvious, such as contaminated rags and gloves, a full audit should be performed to verify and account for all streams.
Our differentiated value
We provide efficient, cost-effective ways to manage your low-level radioactive waste that comply with all EPA, DOT, State and Waste Acceptance Criteria standards. Our trained professionals are experienced in obtaining approvals for processing and disposing waste at our own facilities and at third-party sites that pass our strict audit program. We arrange all transportation and ensures arrival at the selected processing facilities.
For over thirty years, we have been providing a range of specialty services to the nuclear industry at our Alaron Nuclear Services facility in Wampum, Pennsylvania. Strategically located near multiple utilities and other facilities in the nuclear industry, it’s an ideal transfer site for soils and debris generated through decommissioning work on the East Coast that are ultimately destined for disposal at a low-level disposal site.
Our trained field service personnel can identify and classify radioactive and mixed wastes, including:
- Dry active waste
- Scintillation vials/fluids
- Corrosive materials
- Aqueous liquids
- Biological wastes
- Sealed sources
- Contaminated lead
