Veolia’s Schuylkill Station upholds environmental excellence with its ISO 14001 certification renewal

As a leading operator and developer of efficient energy solutions, Veolia is committed to continual improvement and minimizing environmental impacts as part of our daily operations.  As a testament to our robust environmental, health and safety culture, Veolia’s 163-megawatt Schuylkill Station cogeneration facility in Philadelphia recently achieved the renewal of its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification under the 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) standard.  An internationally recognized environmental certification, ISO 14001 emphasizes the continual improvement of an EMS leading to improved environmental performance.

Leveraging advanced Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology, Schuylkill Station serves nearly 300 customers in the central business district with steam and electricity.  By producing steam and electricity simultaneously, the plant avoids the emission of approximately 430,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, which is the equivalent of removing 70,000 automobiles from the streets each year.  Veolia’s operations at Schuylkill Station reflect the company's overall commitment to continuous improvement, as well as the importance of progressively managing environmental impact while supporting sustainability measures in the communities where the company operates.
