Veolia and the Town of Smithfield achieve the 2015 Regional EPA O&M excellence award
Since 1990, Veolia has provided operations, maintenance and management (O&M) services for the 3.5-million gallons per day (MGD) activated sludge wastewater treatment facility serving the Town of Smithfield, Rhode Island. As a testament to the superior services delivered by the Smithfield Veolia team, the town’s wastewater treatment plant was recently awarded the 2015 Regional EPA O&M excellence award at the New England Water Environment Associations (NEWEA) awards luncheon held on January 27th.
The plant was nominated by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM) to acknowledge the outstanding work performed over the years by Project Manager Karen Goffe and her team of skilled O&M professionals. Spanning over a quarter-century, this Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Town of Smithfield includes O&M of the 3.5 million gallons per day (MGD) activated sludge wastewater treatment facility, 12 pump stations, 85 miles of sewer lines, biosolids disposal and industrial pretreatment program. Over the years, the treatment facility and operations team have garnered multiple awards for superior safety, O&M performance and efficiency.
