Veolia recently renewed its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification under the 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) standard for the Kneeland plant and 53 State street office, demonstrating a firm commitment to the environment and support of the city of Boston’s carbon reduction goals. ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard that emphasizes the continual improvement of an EMS leading to improved environmental performance. Organizations that have been registered to ISO 14001 show they are committed to reducing the effect of their business operations on the environment.

The Kneeland Street plant is a seasonal and peaking facility providing reliable thermal energy to downtown Boston buildings.  As the hub for the company's energy operations in the Northeast, the 53 State Street corporate office also holds the IS0 14001 certification, in addition to providing management oversight for the company’s ISO certification program. Veolia's district energy and cogeneration operations in Boston and Cambridge help both cities avoid carbon dioxide emissions.
