Technical Site Tours
Region of Waterloo Hespeler Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Hespeler WWTP in Cambridge Ontario was upgraded with Veolia’s ZeeLung MABR technology to intensify the existing activated sludge system. The facility seasonally nitrified and anticipated more stringent ammonia removal requirements. The addition of innovative ZeeLung MABR cassettes enabled the treatment plant to deliver year-round nutrient removal and save 30% on process aeration energy. The ZeeLung MABR solution was chosen because it was 50% lower capital cost than a conventional upgrade. At the time of its construction in 2021, the plant was the largest MABR in the world in terms of installed MABR media surface area.

Arthur P. Kennedy Water Treatment Plant
Arthur P. Kennedy WTP is one of the world’s largest UF (Ultrafiltration) membrane plants. This plant incorporates Veolia’s ZeeWeed membranes, which are immersed directly into the membrane tanks and draw water into the fibers using a slight vacuum. The membranes form a physical barrier to particles, preventing suspended solids, turbidity, algae and pathogens from passing into the permeate. It has the treatment capacity to produce 1200 million liters (3x400MLD) of clean water every day for residents in the eastern part of Mississauga and Brampton, and the community of Bolton and York Region.
Disco Road Resource Recovery Facility
The Disco Road Organics Processing Facility is a state-of-the-art operation that Veolia operates and maintains for the City of Toronto. It uses innovative pre-processing and anaerobic digestion technology to break down organic material. This produces digester solids, which are used to create high-quality compost. It also produces biogas which is being upgraded into renewable natural gas and blended with the natural gas the City buys to create a lower carbon-fuel blend that the City can use to power its fleet and heat its buildings.

Ashbridge’s Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant
Veolia operates and maintains the biosolids pelletizer plant at the City of Toronto’s Ashbridges Bay water treatment facility, which is Canada's largest water treatment facility. Rated at 818 ML/d, the Ashbridges Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant is Canada’s largest secondary wastewater treatment facility. This site has been under construction for the last 50 years and its new influent wastewater pumping station currently under construction will be one of the largest in the world.

Lorne Park Water Treatment Plant
Lorne Park WTPwthin the Region of Peel is the largest retrofitted low-pressure municipal membrane filtration system in the world and hosts the largest municipal UV advanced oxidation installation for taste and odor removal in North America. It is worth noting that the first ZeeWeed membrane gravity filter (MGF) was installed at the site since 2017.
