## The challenge

10-year, $59 million operations and management (O&amp;M) contract represents one of the largest U.S. water and wastewater systems managed by a public-private partnership. City sees Veolia North America as its best choice to protect valuable water and wastewater assets efficiently and cost effectively.

### The project challenges are:

- In 2008 Veolia won a competitive bid process to provide the City of New London with operations and management (O&amp;M) services for its water and wastewater systems.
- Under the contract, the company will have total asset management responsibility for a 10-MGD activated sludge wastewater treatment plant, nine wastewater pump stations, an 80-mile collection system, a 9-MGD surface water filtration plant, finished water storage tanks a 240-mile distribution system and 2,500 acres of watershed management, including five reservoirs.
- The company also is in charge of capital improvements, billing and revenue collection, underground asset management and sludge disposal.
